I had recently seen a pretty crochet top that I thought would be really cute with a fabric skirt and was so inspired. Determined to uses only stash items I raided the yarn and found only a few scraps that would work with the fabric. ( Well, and that weren't wool which seemed an excessively ridiculous choice for a summer dress. Sometimes being a yarn snob is not helpful.) So armed with the leftover cotton from dishrags I gave to my mother several years ago, I set about to come up with a simple crochet top. (The aforementioned pattern requiring too much yarn and perhaps too much work?)
This was the result. Two cute little summer dresses that took only a few hours to whip up. Yesterday they were worn with white T-shirts and received many comments on our outings. (I missed that photo opportunity so we shall have to make due with this shot taken as they were forced to try them on during a mud-play break on Sunday afternoon.)
On a side note, being a fabric snob would probably be more beneficial to me, as this piece of fabric was a really good piece and worked like a dream. The motifs are so well designed that when I sewed the selvages up the back to make a skirt, they matched perfectly and you can't hardly find the seam! As much of my fabric stash comes from thrifted sheets, re-purposed items or clearance bolts, I am thoroughly amazed when things go this well and easily. However, as I can't even begin to imagine being able to afford becoming a fabric snob with my stashing habits, that will have to be in another life! Until then I shall find joy in simple projects completed with items already acquired.
