My New Years Resolutions are sporadic at first glance but actually have a cohesive feel of being home centered. The general feeling is that we want more time at home, being productive and making things at home. This is the first of those things. The girls wanted matching outfits (next to impossible in their sizes in ready made) and mama got a brand new serger for Christmas. We trouped of to the fabric store (yes I should have gone to my stash but wanted them truly excited about it all) and let them pick some knit fabric. The black and white polka-dots were picked by the bug and I added the pink to make it a little less mature. The request was for a matching skirt and top, so using some of their better fitting clothes for a pattern, these are the results. I think they turned out really cute considering they only took a few hours each. I did fail to allow enough curve in the waist and hem with the full skirts, therefore, the sides hang longer than the centers. I don't worry too much though, after all, they never stand still enough for evaluation anyway. Next up is the sticks they are playing with, they are the dowel rods that we are transforming into their first knitting needles. The Bug wants to learn to knit this year and a friends blog (Uncommon Grace) inspired me to start from scratch with the whole process. We have the sticks sharpened and are working on sanding them down to a smooth finish. We shall have to see how they end up being capped. In the end our family's resolution is a productive and handmade experience. We will be eating at home and hope to frequently enjoy the creation as well as the sustenance. DH has many hand made toys he would love to work on but hasn't seemed to find the time in past years. We want to focus on things like that, finding time for creation and reducing the purchase/ acquisition of stuff.
Whatever we are doing now, it shall eventually pass and other things will replace it. This blog is about fully living and sharing the chapter were in. Included within these postings will be moments of daily frenzy, knitting, sewing, crocheting, literary indulgences, kitchen creations, fiber love, faith, family and friends. Enjoy!
