The light was long and golden, though still bright, as mom and I washed dished and generally puttered around the kitchen. Somehow we had gotten on the discussion of what to look for, or maybe just what to appreciate in a man. At my impressionable young age (somewhere in middle school I think) Mom's word was everything. She talked about how, to her it wasn't about $50 red roses on Valentines Day, instead daisies "just because it was Tuesday and I was thinking of you" held so much more meaning. I was enchanted with the thought of someone wanting to do something special for me just because they cared and wanted to show it right now. Also, how the obligatory days were not what really spoke of the hearts thoughts, whatever commercialism tried to tell us. The moment was sealed forever in my mind, when, a while later my dad came home from work (I think) with a bouquet of fresh flowers, just because. Thank you Mom and Dad for teaching me to appreciate the little things, not with the lessons you prepared, but with the actions you lived. These lovely roses were brought home to me and my girls by my darling hubby, just because. How lucky I feel to have found a man who understands about the little things. For in so many ways he is the stuff of childhood fantasy. Strong, loving, caring, thoughtful, gentle, secure and dedicated to his family (and me). How grateful I feel everyday, to have found a 'just because' man to share my life with. Thank you honey, for so much more than the beautiful blooms. I wonder how we will pass this lesson on to our own impressionable young minds?
Whatever we are doing now, it shall eventually pass and other things will replace it. This blog is about fully living and sharing the chapter were in. Included within these postings will be moments of daily frenzy, knitting, sewing, crocheting, literary indulgences, kitchen creations, fiber love, faith, family and friends. Enjoy!
